Layering helps your skin absorb your product and most importantly you lock the moisture in with the last layer. I follow the right order based on the viscosity -
I start with liquid -> lotion -> cream -> (balm if necessary).
Wait for 1 min after each layer so to allow the product penetrates before you put on the next layer. Then I finish with cream which basically makes a protective layer to seal the moisture. Try with the products that you are currently using and see the difference. Enjoy!
What is the difference between a lotion and a cream? I always thought a lotion is for oily skin and a cream for a drier skin
ReplyDeleteAlso,Are you supposed to apply those 3 layers no matter your skin type?
Thank you
Valerie
Hi Valerie,
ReplyDeleteThanks for your comment, good question!
You are partly right! Generally lotion is for oily skin given its lighter flowy form and cream is for drier skin for its thicker form. But to me it's not always the case as I've tried some lotions that gives my skin all the oil and shine, even tho it's in a light liquid form. (have you shared similar experience?) In my interpretation, that lotion contains more oil than I need. So when I choose lotion, I make sure it doesn't form an oily film after application, meaning it penetrates thru your skin and your skin doesn't feel sticky.
Yes I'd say at least 2 layers no matter your skin type. And the essence is to pick the right thing and use it in the right order.
If you have oily skin, pick a serum that contains no oil and simply gives your skin moisture, followed by a light cream that helps control shine in your oily areas and then a regular cream for your cheeks (usually cheeks are drier)
If you have normal / dry skin, pick a serum that contains no oil also, followed by a regular cream that contains oil to seal the moisture. For me, I put on lotion in between as my 2nd step at night and during my 1st phase of moon cycle when my skin is the most dry.
Hope it helps! enjoy!!
Thank you Lala
